Colts already look more than foolish for Anthony Richardson decision
As the Indianapolis Colts offense struggled to start their Week 10 match-up against the Buffalo Bills, it was hard not to think if another change needed to be made at the quarterback position. For a quick refresher, the Colts opted to bench 2023 fourth overall pick Anthony Richardson after he struggled to start the year.
Joe Flacco got the nod to start, and despite some nice performances while Richardson was out, he started the Week 10 match-up in the worst possible way. Flacco threw picks on back-to-back possessions, with the first going the other way for a pick-six and an early Bills lead.
Of course, it's still early in the game, but the coaching staff has to be wondering if maybe it's time to put Richardson back onto the field to give the offense any kind of boost. Richardson struggled to take care of the football during his six starts, throwing seven interceptions but he proved that he could make big plays down the field. That could be exactly what the Colts need after a rough start.
Is it time to put Anthony Richardson back in the Colts offense?
The decision to bench Richardson was a little strange to some people, considering he only played four games as a rookie, and hasn't had a ton of time to get his feet wet in the league. Flacco is also pushing 40 years old, and is in no way, shape, or form the future at quarterback for Indianapolis.
Richardson received a ton of criticism for taking a play off in Week 8, and then got caught yawning on the sideline in last week's loss to the Vikings (even though he wasn't playing). The writing on the wall has pointed to a future in Indy without Richardson, but maybe this is a chance for him to go out there and redeem himself.
The AFC is still pretty open, and if the Colts can start winning games, they can climb back into contention. Maybe it's time to see if Richardson's time on the bench has helped him learn anything and see if he can salvage the season (and his Colts career).
