Round 5/Pick 151
Rylie Mills/Notre Dame-DT
While Mills has not been to any formal meetings with the team, not many interior defensive linemen have either. I think the depth is needed and just feel there are others needed before this spot. The coaching staff did attend the Notre Dame Pro Day with personnel making the trip. Mills best trait is his ability to finish the play. The Colts missed too many tackles last year and this should help with that.
Round 6/Pick 189
Kurtis Rourke/QB- Indiana
I have gone back and forth on the Colts selecting a quarterback. They have talked to Texas QB Quinn Ewers and Louisville QB Tyler Shough - both worthy prospects, but one thing stands out to me. This pick will see hardly any snaps in offseason camps, as both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones will split the reps heading into the season.
So why not draft Kurtis Rourke with a Day Three flyer? Rourke likely won’t be able to participate in most of the offseason program, as he is recovering from an ACL injury he suffered. This allows him time to get into the program with this franchise, and allow him to learn from Shane Steichen and the other offensive coaches. If neither of these guys have what it takes, he has an opportunity to compete next season.
Round 7/Pick 232
Seth Coleman/Illinois-EDGE
In round 7, you take someone that has the chance to make the team and with an edge rusher, the opportunity is ripe. As mentioned above, the large number of expiring contracts makes it even better for Coleman to make the team or at least the practice squad for development. Coleman comes from the Big Ten, so he played against high level talent on a consistent basis. The Colts did talk to him and put him through drills at their local Pro Day where he was seen as an off-ball defender more than a lineman.
