The Indianapolis Colts hold the 14th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and GM Chris Ballard might have just dropped a major hint about what the team plans to do with their first-round pick. For Colts fans who have been following along with the pre-draft process, this won't come as a surprise, but it'd be a huge sigh of relief.
While speaking to the media on Monday, Ballard was asked about the tight end position and when Indy might address the need.
"I mean, I think we all know we need –- we like the group we have, what they can do. We have two really good blockers. We have a young kid that we think has some speed and some upside. But saying that, if we had a chance to take one that we think can really make a difference, we will do it."
Chris Ballard just confirmed what Colts fans have been thinking for weeks
Colts fans have been hoping the team would do something about the lack of depth at the tight end spot, and Ballard sure made it sound as though that'd be happening. Indianapolis currently has Drew Ogletree, Mo Alie-Cox, Jelani Woods, and Will Mallory as their top options at tight end, so adding help at the position would be a wise move.
Fortunately, the Colts should be in a great position to land Michigan's Colston Loveland, who has been mocked to Indianapolis countless times. Tyler Warren of Penn State could also make a ton of sense for the Colts.
The fact that Ballard made it a point to say "If we had a chance to take [a tight end] that we think can really make a difference, we will do it" means that the Colts aren't planning to pull any punches here. If one of the top tight ends is there at 14, Ballard will be practically sprinting to get the draft card handed in.
This would make Colts fans quite happy, as the team has struggled to find an effective tight end recently. Loveland and Warren would both be great additions, and could help whoever wins the starting quarterback job a ton of help in 2025.
