When the Indianapolis Colts signed defensive back Camryn Bynum in free agency, fans knew they were getting an uber-talented player. But, some weren’t aware of what type of leader — or fortune teller — the locker room also gained.

Immediately upon arriving in Indianapolis, Bynum made a bold proclamation at one of the team’s offseason luncheons. And after a hot start to the regular season, he’s doubling down.

During a recent appearance on Downs 2 Business — a podcast hosted by fellow Colts player Josh Downs and his brother, Caleb — Bynum explained why he felt so confident in his stance.

Camryn Bynum heaps praise toward the Indianapolis Colts impressive start

“As soon as I got here in the offseason, we went through training camp, and I knew we were gonna be a cold team. Just because the way we were fighting on defense. The way the offense — you guys have so many weapons. Any one of y’all can change the game. There are just big play opportunities everywhere on offense.

“That’s something I knew as soon as I got here,” Bynum continued. “I’ve been on some good teams before… a 14-win team, a 13-win team. This is one of those teams. It’s a complete team. I think this is the most complete team I’ve ever been on.

“For me, there was never a doubt in my mind that we would be good. So, that’s why I literally felt comfortable saying that at the luncheon. Like no, I’m not here trying to get to the playoffs. I’m trying to get to a Super Bowl.”

It may be too early for pundits and fans to accept the Super Bowl aspirations as realistic, but with each passing week, the Colts are inching closer to being a legitimate contender.

Even if the Super Bowl feels ambitious at this point, it’s undeniable that an AFC South crown is firmly in the cards for Indianapolis — a feat the franchise hasn’t achieved in over a decade.

The reigning champion Houston Texans sit at 0-3, and the Tennessee Titans have yet to notch a tally in the win column either. The Jacksonville Jaguars are 2-1, but they’ve often performed like a winless team themselves.

Simply put, the door is wide open for the Colts to reclaim the throne in a division that used to run through the Midwest. That success is thanks in large part to the savvy signings that Chris Ballard made over the offseason.

Bringing in veteran defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, along with key additions on the field such as Mooney Ward and Bynum, has given the Colts a defensive unit that can completely take over games.

Look no further than Bynum’s two, game-changing interceptions as a Colt. Not to mention his memorable celebrations in the end zone with team mascot “Blue.”

That type of dominance on defense makes life infinitely easier for Daniel Jones and the offense. It is the perfect marriage through the first month of the season.

If Bynum’s words ring true, it will be a deep run in the playoffs for Indy come January. And to this point, there’s no reason to believe it can’t happen for the revitalized Colts organization.
