With the 2022 NFL season now over, the 2023 NFL Combine is right around the corner. Here’s all the info for the annual scouting event.
A Super Bowl champion has been crowned and every coaching vacancy has been filled. That means it’s now draft season. Teams will begin turning their attention to all of the talented prospects that will be entering the NFL this year. That process officially gets underway at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, the annual week-long event where teams and prospects come to one city to learn more about each other.
As usual, the host city is Indianapolis and the hometown Indianapolis Colts will be a major player in this year’s draft. Currently sitting with the No. 4 overall pick, the Colts could possibly trade with the Chicago Bears and have the No. 1 pick by the time the draft arrives. Before that happens, Indy must get a better look at the available prospects and that process starts at the combine.
When is the NFL Combine 2023?
The Combine starts on Tuesday, February 28, and will have daily events until the final day which is Monday, March 6. The athletic testing portion starts on Thursday, March 2, and each day is dedicated to specific position groups.
- Thursday, March 2: Defensive linemen, linebackers
- Friday, March 3: Defensive backs (cornerbacks, safeties)
- Saturday, March 4: Quarterbacks, receivers, and tight ends
- Sunday, March 5: Running backs, offensive linemen
Where is the NFL Combine?
The 2023 Combine is in Indianapolis and Lucas Oil Stadium will be the place where the tests take place. Indy has hosted the Combine since 1987, and despite recent talks of exploring different host cities, Indianapolis remains the home of the combine.
Who is invited to the NFL Combine?
Of the many draft-eligible prospects, only 319 were invited by the NFL. For the prospects who didn’t receive invitations, they will showcase their abilities at their school pro days.
NFL Combine events
The Combine gives teams the opportunity to meet with prospects but the major draws are the athletic tests. While prospects will go through various position-specific drills, there are seven universal tests to measure all prospects’ athleticism.
- 40-yard dash
- 20-yard shuttle
- 60-yard shuttle
- 3-cone drill
- Broad jump
- Vertical jump
- 225-pound bench press
How to watch NFL Combine 2023
The Combine will be broadcasted by NFL Network. Fans will be able to tune in on television and can also stream on the NFL app or the league’s official website.
What positions will Colts focus on during the Combine?
The main focus for Indianapolis will obviously be the quarterback position. All of the top quarterbacks will be in attendance, so Indy will certainly get familiar with them to see who the Colts will be selecting in the draft. Beyond quarterback, Indianapolis will be looking at all positions but paying close attention to the offensive and defensive linemen, as well as receivers and defensive backs.
