The Indianapolis Colts had an embarrassing 2022 season. What game was the team’s best performance and what game was the worst?
This past season didn’t look anything like the Indianapolis Colts expected it to. Entering the season with promise as possible contenders, the Colts stumbled out of the gate and never found their footing. After cycling through starting quarterbacks, firing Frank Reich, and hiring Jeff Saturday, Indy finished the year 4-12-1. It was a season filled with low points but a few surprising highs.
With 12 losses and a draw, there are plenty of bad moments to choose from to decide the worst. On the other hand, Indianapolis only had four wins, so it’s a much smaller pool when deciding the high point of the season. So what was Indy’s best win and what was the team’s worst loss? Around The NFL Writer Nick Shook answered this question for each AFC team in a recent piece.
For the Colts, Shook said the best win was Indy’s Week 10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, and the worst loss was the Week 18 loss to the Houston Texans. While Indianapolis didn’t have many wins to choose from, Shook picked the Raiders game because of all the surrounding circumstances. The Colts were able to pull out a win in Saturday’s first game. As far as the loss, Shook argued that Indy should have been able to handle an inferior Texans squad, but Indianapolis just couldn’t finish.
The highs and lows for the Colts in 2022
The win in Vegas was a big one for Indianapolis this past season. Everyone was counting Indy out with Saturday in charge and the team responded in a big way. Winning the game 25-20, it was one of the more productive games of the season for the Colts. However, it’s hard to definitively say that game was the best win of the season when Indianapolis had a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are preparing to play for a Super Bowl and Indy beat them 20-17. That’s a pretty good win.
As far as losses, you could blindly pick one of Indy’s losses and make a case for it being the worst loss of the season. Pretty much all 12 losses this season came in a disgusting fashion for the Colts. If one loss had to actually be the worst, it has to be between the Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys and the Week 15 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Against Dallas, the Colts were down two points entering the fourth quarter and ultimately lost 54-19. Two weeks later against the Vikings, Indianapolis led 33-0 at the half and lost the game 39-36. Both of those were abysmal losses, and it doesn’t matter if they were playoff teams or not. The fashion in which Indy lost those two games makes one of them the worst loss of the year.

The Indianapolis Colts added a lot of players last offseason but some of those players will be gone after just one year in Indy.
