Colts could sign 49ers edge defender Samson Ebukam
Every team in the league wants a piece of the San Francisco 49ers’ defense right now. From their coordinator, DeMeco Ryans, to the players on the field flying around and making plays, they are a dominant group that has been special over the last couple of seasons. Indianapolis may be able to get one of the 49ers’ defenders this offseason.
Samson Ebukam is an edge defender for San Francisco and has been with the team for the last two seasons. Prior to that, Ebukam was a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Since being with the 49ers, Ebukam has played in 32 games, starting 26, and has racked up 9.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, 74 total tackles, and two forced fumbles. He could join the Colts his offseason and help contribute to their promising defense.
This could be a name to watch for Indianapolis because defensive end, Yannick Ngakoue, is set to be a free agent this offseason. The Colts traded for Ngakoue last offseason so that he could help improve the pass rush and the team could be more competitive. Yannick did help improve the pass rush but Indy didn’t hold up its end of the bargain. Now, Ngakoue will enter free agency and will likely be targeted by teams whose outlooks are more promising than Indy’s.
If the Colts are unable to re-sign Ngakoue, there are several edge rushers Indianapolis could go after but Samson Ebukam is one of them. Playing on a defensive line with DeForest Buckner, Grover Stewart, and Kwity Paye, Ebukam should be able to make a lot of plays in Indianapolis.
