Jonathan Taylor ranked as one of the best offensive players entering this season
As the Indianapolis Colts start the 2022 season, they’ll be lucky to have Jonathan Taylor, one of the best offensive players in the NFL.
Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans will be the first action this year for Jonathan Taylor. While it’s the first real action for everyone, Taylor didn’t take the field with the Indianapolis Colts in the three preseason games, so this will be his first appearance since his breakout season of last year.
Since then, Taylor has become one of the most respected superstars in the NFL. He was ranked as the fifth-best player in the league by his peers and has received many more special titles as he’s expected to once again dominate for the Colts. As the season starts, Taylor found himself towards the top of another list.
David Carr, a former NFL quarterback and now an analyst for NFL Network, ranked the best NFL offensive players heading into Week 1. In a list that was 15 players deep, the Colts had one representative, and that was Jonathan Taylor at No. 5.
Jonathan Taylor ranked as the No. 5 offensive player
Taylor trailed Aaron Rodgers, Cooper Kupp, Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes. Not only was Taylor the highest-rated running back on the list, but the only other running back was Derrick Henry at No. 15, 10 spots down.
Carr praised Jonathan Taylor for his production last season and noted how he ran the Colts to several victories. Carr also expressed that Taylor should have more help offensively with Matt Ryan now at quarterback and says, “That could lessen Taylor’s production — but not his impact as a runner or pass catcher.”
Taylor is obviously talented and fans love to see him run the ball. A lot of times last year, Taylor’s legs were Indy’s only path to victory. If decreased production for Taylor means an improved passing game and a more complete and productive offense, that’s something that Colts fans wouldn’t mind seeing.
