The Indianapolis Colts have a new quarterback this season in Matt Ryan and he was ranked in an unfavorable spot in quarterback rankings.

On Sunday, Matt Ryan will finally play a real game as the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts. After spending 14 seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, he was traded to Indianapolis this offseason, and both he and the team have high expectations for the season ahead.

So far, Ryan has been meeting expectations and has emerged as an incredible leader that should help the Colts win games this season. While Matt Ryan may no longer be considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, many feel he’s still an above-average quarterback capable of playing at a high level.

However, that wasn’t necessarily reflected in a Week 1 quarterback ranking by Marc Sessler. On Wednesday, Sessler ranked all 32 starting quarterbacks and he placed Matt Ryan with the bottom half of guys at No. 16.

Matt Ryan ranked No. 16 in quarterback rankings

Sessler expresses that he believes Ryan can still play and that he will benefit from being with the Colts, but does argue that Matt Ryan isn’t near the level he was when he won MVP in 2016. However, Sessler didn’t get into why exactly he had Ryan behind some quarterbacks that some would argue Ryan is better than.

Primarily Ryan Tannehill, who was ranked two spots ahead of Matt Ryan at No. 14. Considering that Tannehill and Matt Ryan are the quarterbacks of the top two teams in the AFC South, they’ll often find themselves in comparison. But, Tannehill hasn’t done much in the last few seasons to prove he’s actually better than Matt Ryan except for being with a more talented team that has won more than the Falcons.

With Matt Ryan now with the Colts, he has a much better platform to show the world what he can still do in his 15th season. After he and the Colts get rolling, expect Matt Ryan to gradually start moving up these rankings.
