Veteran receiver, TY Hilton, is unlikely to return to the Indianapolis Colts but he could be a perfect fit for several other teams in the NFL.
Recently, Chris Ballard made clear that TY Hilton likely won’t be returning to the Indianapolis Colts this year. Obviously, things can change, but with Indy’s first regular season game on Sunday, Hilton won’t be on Indy’s roster for Week 1. As long as the Colts’ receivers are healthy and performing, the team won’t be reaching out to Hilton.
However, TY Hilton hasn’t retired, so he can go play for any other team in the league. While there’s always a market for veteran receivers, Hilton hasn’t been seriously linked to any team this offseason with the exception of a few rumors about the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens.
As teams take the field for Week 1 and they see that their receivers aren’t who they thought they were, or suffer an unfortunate injury, Hilton will likely garner a lot of interest. But which team will Hilton be a good fit for?
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report answered that in a recent article looking at the best remaining free-agent option for every team. For Hilton, Knox believes the best fit is with the Chicago Bears.
TY Hilton named a great option for the Bears
Knox highlights Chicago’s need to build around the young quarterback, Justin Fields, as the reason the Bears should be interested in TY Hilton. While Chicago has made some moves at wideout, they still have an underwhelming group that is unproven.
Additionally, Knox points out how Bears head coach, Matt Eberflus, is Indy’s former defensive coordinator. Although Hilton doesn’t play defense, it is a connection and Eberflus has already brought in multiple former Colts.
While this is a move that makes sense for the Bears, it seems unlikely that it’s one that Hilton would be interested in. Entering what would be his 11th season in the NFL, it wouldn’t make sense for a 32-year-old Hilton to jump aboard a rebuilding team. If Hilton returns, he will probably prioritize winning and join a contending team so that he can help them make a run.
