Chris Ballard essentially closes the door on TY Hilton or any other receiver joining the Colts
General manager of the Indianapolis Colts, Chris Ballard, made it seem like the team has no plans to add a wide receiver, not even TY Hilton.
Now that the Indianapolis Colts have concluded training camp and the preseason, and have transitioned to a regular season roster and practice schedule, general manager Chris Ballard sat down with the media on Wednesday. Ballard discussed several topics from the return of Shaquille Leonard to the unfortunate losses of players the team had to release.
Chris Ballard also got into the conversation of whether he and the Colts are planning to make any more big moves, specifically at the wide receiver position. With names like TY Hilton and Odell Beckham Jr. still out there, many fans and media members have thought Indy could be a landing spot, especially for the homegrown Hilton.
However, Ballard pretty much closed the door on any of those conversations as he admitted that Indy is comfortable with the group they have heading into the season and that there currently aren’t any plans to bring someone else in. Not even TY Hilton who has played the last 10 years with Indianapolis.
Colts are satisfied at wide receiver entering the season
While Ballard might have said that he’s “never going to shut the door” on the idea of TY Hilton returning, his following words about how he likes the current group sure made it sound like Indy has no plans to sign Hilton or any wideout for this season. But, of course, everything is fluid in the NFL.
The young receivers for the Colts could go out and start the season making everyone believers, and proving that they don’t need any additional help. Or, they could stumble out of the gate and initially struggle, or worse, one of them could get hurt. If one of those two negative outcomes happen, Ballard’s words could become irrelevant because the circumstances would have changed.
However, for now, fans should get comfortable with the likelihood that TY Hilton won’t be playing this season with the Colts. Even worse, Hilton could be suiting up for another team in the league, because it seems the Colts are comfortable moving on.
