It’s never too early for the Indianapolis Colts to start thinking about the next NFL draft, even if it is a little over eight months away.

With the NFL preseason starting this month, and the regular season starting in just over a month, the focus should be there. But college football starts this month, and Indianapolis Colts fans might be looking at which players they’d like to see in a Colts uniform next season.

Without knowing how players are going to fair this season, it can often be hard to look into the future. History will show that Chris Ballard has looked into that crystal ball before, though. Players have often not been resigned and the team drafts a rookie to replace them.

Indy could be showing its hand now, considering there are several players that are due a contract extension but have not received one yet. Is this the time the Colts replace Quenton Nelson through the draft and get more capital in a trade?

Maybe this is a time to get younger at a position. Maybe it’s even a time to continue to fill the position with youth until something sticks.

Who should Colts fans be keeping an eye on this season? With all expectations of Indianapolis making the playoffs and doing well, it is very likely the Colts will not have a top 20 draft pick this year.

WR Jordan Addison, Pittsburgh

In next year’s draft, the Colts could continue building success at the position and draft yet another star-wide receiver to build a strong receiver room. With the addition of Jordan Addison, the Colts could run a trio of Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and Jordan Addison.

Addison can be a valuable receiver that could play in the middle of the field and bail out a quarterback in a time of need. Considering Indianapolis is likely going to have a young quarterback within the next two to three years, this will be a valuable addition to the roster.
