Strengths and weaknesses of every AFC South team and how Colts can beat them

Houston Texans – Last Season (4-13)

Out of all of the other three teams in the AFC South, I feel most confident in the Colts’ chances against the Houston Texans. Last season Indy went 2-0 against Houston. Neither of the two games was close at all as Indianapolis won the first one at home by a score of 31-3 and 31-0 in Houston. In those two games, Indy’s defense forced a combined five turnovers and really made it hard on rookie quarterback Davis Mills.

Strengths of the Houston Texans

Even though the Texans only mustered four wins, there were some bright spots on this team that I think could pose a problem for the Colts. Receiver Brandin Cooks put up 1037 yards and six touchdowns last season. They also have added former Indianapolis running back, Marlon Mack, in the offseason and he will more than likely have a pretty good role for them this year.

If the Colts struggle to contain Cooks, they may have a hard time stopping this Texans offense. The reason they were so successful against them last season is because they limited him. That is what you have to do to be victorious against Houston.

Ways the Colts can attack the Texans

In the two games last season, Indianapolis dominated Houston in every facet of the game. The thing that stands out the most about the two wins was that Indy amassed a whopping 412 rushing yards in the two games combined. That is where the Colts have to start. if they attack the defensive line with Jonathan Taylor and company, then they will be successful.

Then when that happens, you open up the passing game with Matt Ryan and the weapons on the outside. Finally, Indy is always at its best when it can get to the quarterback. If the defense can harass Mills, the Colts will keep their offense on the field more!

Prediction for this season

I think Indianapolis does all of the things that I mentioned above and is victorious over the Texans in both meetings. I do believe that they will be closer, however. It will be interesting to see how Indy attacks the Texans’ vulnerable areas.
