Stephon Gilmore thinks the Indianapolis Colts are similar to the Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots team he was a part of.

Entering the 2022 NFL season, the goal for the Indianapolis Colts is to win a Super Bowl. However, the core of their team is extremely young and has never been to a Super Bowl, let alone won one. But, the Colts brought in some veterans this offseason with some Super Bowl experience.

New quarterback Matt Ryan has played in a Super Bowl and backup quarterback, Nick Foles, has won one. Additionally, the Colts signed veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore. In Gilmore’s four seasons with the New England Patriots, he played in two Super Bowls and won one during the 2018 season.

Gilmore knows what success looks like and he knows the things a Super Bowl-caliber team needs. Although he was brought in to help Indianapolis get there, he already believes the team has what it takes. In an interview with NFL Network, Gilmore was asked if the Colts had a Super Bowl-caliber roster.

As one of the few Super Bowl champions on the roster, Gilmore has the credibility to answer. His response was, “When I was in New England, we had talent but sometimes it wasn’t the most talented rosters. It was the guys that were unselfish and put the team first and we (Indianapolis) have one of those teams.”

Stephon Gilmore believes team-first attitude will benefit Colts

Luckily, Indianapolis does have one of the more talented rosters and it’s even better that they are all team-first guys. While the talent can get them far, the combination of their talent, chemistry, and commitment to a common goal will get them further. Gilmore explained that’s how it worked for the Patriots and believes it will also lead to a lot of success for the Colts.

However, there’s still a ways to go for Indianapolis. They have to make it to the season and keep their foot on the gas. Health will be important for the Colts and so will staying focused until the ultimate goal is accomplished. Last year, Indy lost focus and it cost the team a postseason appearance. Now, with more experience, the team shouldn’t make that same mistake.
