The Indianapolis Colts have one of the league’s best young players in Jonathan Taylor, but is he the best young player in the NFL?

After a breakout season last year with the Indianapolis Colts, running back Jonathan Taylor finds his name on a bunch of lists as he prepares for his third season in the NFL. During the offseason, it’s sports’ nature to create various lists and rankings, and the Colts have been well represented.

Taylor was recently named the second-best running back in the NFL according to an ESPN survey and he was also ranked as the 21st player in the league according to PFF’s top 50. PFF also broke down the rankings to show how the players under 25 stacked up.

With Jonathan Taylor being so dominant and so young, he has a pretty good case to be the best under-25 player in the NFL. However, Taylor finished at No. 2 behind Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

While Taylor has a case, so does Justin Jefferson. Since entering the league in 2020, the same season as Taylor, Jefferson has been selected to two Pro Bowls and has been absolutely dominant as a wide receiver.

As a rookie, Jefferson caught 125 passes for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns. He improved on all those numbers in his second season catching 167 passes for 1,616 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has been really electric in Minnesota paired up with Adam Thielen.

While Justin Jefferson may be ahead of Taylor for now, Jonathan Taylor could surpass him with another impressive season. Both players are just 23 years old, so they have even more time to dominate the under 25 list. We’ll see how Jonathan Taylor follows up his 2021 breakout season and if it will be enough to jump Justin Jefferson who is poised to have another productive season as well.
