While the Indianapolis Colts spent the offseason making moves to get better, many believe the Tennessee Titans have done the opposite.

Unfortunately for the Indianapolis Colts, the Tennessee Titans have been dominating the division the last two seasons. While Indy and Tennessee have developed a tense rivalry, the Titans have been king in the AFC South.

Not only have the Titans won the division in both of the last two seasons, but they have defeated the Colts in their last three matchups. In addition to dominating the AFC South, Tennessee was the No. 1 seed in the entire AFC last season.

However, Tennessee lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round of the playoffs and it seems like the Titans have been moving in the wrong direction since then. While they still have a lot of their key pieces like Derrick Henry, Tennessee did release Julio Jones and traded away AJ Brown.

After somewhat overachieving last year, and all of the activity that took place this offseason, Tyler Sullivan from CBS Sports believes the Titans are the top team likely to take a step back next season. While that’s tough for Tennessee, it’s perfect for the Colts.

Colts will benefit if the Titans take a step back

While Tennessee has been winning the AFC South, they’ve only been a step or two ahead of Indianapolis. In 2020, both teams were 11-5 but the Titans had the tiebreaker. In 2021, Tennessee was three games better than Indy but the Colts were only one game away from making the playoffs.

So if the Titans do come back a few steps, that’s likely all Indianapolis needs to reclaim the AFC South, especially with the offseason moves made in Indy. From adding Matt Ryan on offense to Yannick Ngakoue and Stephon Gilmore on defense, this Colts team should be much better than they were last year, and more importantly, better than what the Titans will be this coming season.
