The majority of football fans would prefer it if their favorite team played inside a dome. That way they can’t blame a potential loss on unfriendly weather. Indianapolis Colts fans are spoiled in that regard by calling Lucas Oil Stadium home as they never have to worry about playing in rain/snow storms or freezing temperatures.

Look no further than the Bills-Patriots clash at Highmark Stadium last season. With the temperature below freezing and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, New England dialed up just three passing plays en route to a 14-10 win.

Of course, the Colts are all too familiar with how harsh the Buffalo climate can be during the NFL season. Just last season, Indy rode Jonathan Taylor, who scored a franchise record five touchdowns (four rushing, one receiving), to a statement 41-15 win over the Bills in a rain-drenched Orchard Park.

If you asked former Colts punter Pat McAfee, he’d like it if all NFL stadiums had a dome or a retractable roof at the bare minimum so as to avoid rain, wind or snow having a potential say in a game’s outcome.

After catching wind of McAfee’s take on Twitter, former NFL linebacker Will Compton took the former Pro Bowler to task with a savage tweet.

Will Compton trolled former Colts star Pat McAfee over his controversial take on NFL weather.

Sorry, McAfee, but we have to side with Compton here. Of course a former punter would prefer to play inside a dome.

It lessens the risk of fumbling a snap, having the football shank off your foot or a punt’s projected distance upended due to wind. Much like quarterbacks, domes are the perfect atmosphere for punters and kickers, so it’s obvious to see why McAfee wants every stadium to eliminate the possibility of weather inference.

But where’s the fun in that? Battling the elements is part of what makes football so compelling. Some of the game’s most iconic moments took place during hellish snowstorms. Who doesn’t love turning on RedZone on Sunday and seeing Lambeau Field, Gillette Stadium or Soldier Field doused in snow?

And what about a classic mud bowl in the rain? There’s something about battling the elements that makes football the box-office spectacle it is today.

We’re all for watching the game’s best quarterbacks go touchdown-for-touchdown in a dome environment, but McAfee is crazy for wanting to nix the weather narrative altogether. The 35-year-old is usually spot-on with his takes, but Compton had every right to put him on blast here.

Can you imagine Lambeau Field, Gillette Stadium or Soldier Field having a retractable roof? Makes me queasy just thinking about it.
