What prospect should the Colts be watching during the college football season?

With the NFL and college football season approaching, the scouting department for the Indianapolis Colts will begin creating a list of prospects.

The job is never done in the NFL. Once one goal is accomplished, the team is usually back to work after a couple of days of celebration. If the goal isn’t accomplished, then teams may not even take a break. That’s why the Indianapolis Colts got right to work after suffering an embarrassing Week 18 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

It’s also why Indy is likely already looking at prospects after having a successful Draft just a couple of months ago. The Colts added several promising rookies in the 2022 draft class, and now the scouting department is focused on doing it again next year.

While the 2023 Draft is still a long way away, there are some prospects that it’s safe to say Indianapolis has its eyes on. Some players have even already been mocked to the Colts in way too early mock drafts.

While there will be plenty of more mock drafts in the coming year, a good question to ask is what college player should Indy be watching during the season. Michael Renner from PFF answered that question in a recent article looking at prospects for every NFL team. The player that Renner believes Indy should be watching is wide receiver, Jordan Addison.

Jordan Addison should be on the watchlist for Colts

Addison dominated a lot of the college football headlines this offseason after transferring from Pittsburgh to USC. Last season, he was the No. 1 receiver for Kenny Pickett and won the Biletnikoff Award, but now, he has switched coasts and will play in Lincoln Riley’s offense.

Renner argues that Addison is the perfect receiver for the Colts because Indy has two large receivers in Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce. With those two on the outside, the six-foot Addison could lineup inside for Indianapolis and use his route-running prowess to help develop the passing game.

That would be a perfect scenario for the Colts. They definitely still have room to build the receiving unit and Addison is a talented wideout that would make a lot of sense. However, he’s so talented that he’s likely on the watchlist for a lot of NFL teams.

The probability of Indy landing Addison will depend on how the Colts perform next season. The goal for Indianapolis is to win the Super Bowl and that will put the team at the end of the first round and out of range for Addison, but that’s a tradeoff many fans will accept.
