NFL writer Adam Rank has a unique opinion about the young and inexperienced wide receiver group for the Indianapolis Colts.

All offseason, the wide receiver room for the Indianapolis Colts has been subject to much criticism. Since last season ended, Indy was met with the constant demand to add a receiver in free agency or by trade. However, the Colts just waited until the Draft and selected Alec Pierce.

Now, everyone talks about how young and inexperienced the wideout room is and how they may ultimately make or break Indy’s season. They were also recently ranked the No. 25 receiving unit in the NFL by PFF.

While the majority of the NFL world isn’t impressed, there is one person willing to admit that they are kind of excited for the unit. That person is Adam Rank from NFL.com. Although Rank recently predicted a disappointing finish next season for the Colts, he went out on a limb to say “The Colts’ receivers are kind of good.”

Adam Rank believes Colts’ receivers are actually good

This may have been the first time anyone outside of the organization has said this about Indy’s wideouts in the last two years. While much of the criticism and questioning is warranted, Rank believes in the promise of the unit.

In a piece looking at the “State of the 2022 Indianapolis Colts,” Rank argues that people are overlooking what this group of young receivers can be. He highlights the size of the unit, all very tall, as well as Michael Pittman Jr. who’s coming off a breakout year, and rookie Alec Pierce, who Rank believes can be an immediate contributor.

Although not a receiver, Rank also names Jelani Woods as a player that could make a difference in the receiving game this upcoming season.

Rank has the optimistic view that Frank Reich and Chris Ballard have for this unit of receivers. While they haven’t proven themselves, the team is comfortable betting on their potential. However, it’s a risky bet because the group could make or break what is an otherwise talented team.

If the receivers come through for the Colts, this could be a championship team, but if they don’t take that next step of development, Indianapolis could be missing the playoffs for the second year in a row.
