There was a small hope that the Indianapolis Colts may have been able to acquire Terry McLaurin, but that door seems to be closed.

When it was reported that Terry McLaurin wasn’t attending the Washington Commander’s mandatory minicamp because of his desire for a new contract, many believed there was a chance the situation could result in McLaurin being traded to another team.

That led to fans of teams like the Indianapolis Colts urging their franchise to go trade for the talented receiver. If McLaurin was going to be moved, Indy probably had as much of a chance as anyone.

The Colts have previously made calls about McLaurin, he’s from Indy, and he was engaging with Colts content on Twitter. It seemed like a natural fit. However, it doesn’t seem like McLaurin will be a member of Indianapolis anytime soon.

Washington’s head coach, Ron Rivera, spoke to the media about McLaurin, his holdout, and his future with the team. Rivera made clear that the Commanders weren’t trading him, and while that’s typical coach-speak, Rivera’s answer genuinely seemed like the hold-up was just a matter of working out contract details.

Rivera didn’t just say that they aren’t trading their young star, he explained why the team is so committed to paying him. The reasons listed are exactly why so many other teams were hoping they had a chance at McLaurin.

Rivera highlights that Terry McLaurin is an impactful person on and off the field. He’s a leader in all aspects and an example of how the team wants things done. Because of that, Washington feels additional pressure to take care of him because he’s everything they ask for in a player.

It was also made clear that the contract talks haven’t been “contentious” and that both sides are just working through negotiations on a deal that’s good for everyone. In other words, Terry McLaurin isn’t going anywhere.

The Colts will have to move on and be satisfied with their current receivers or set their sights on someone else. Landing McLaurin was a dream, to begin with, and now all hope has officially evaporated.
