Colts can sign Landon Collins for safety depth

There was a point when Landon Collins was one of the best safeties in football, however, those days are behind. From 2016 to 2018, Collins made three straight Pro Bowls as a member of the New York Giants.

Following his time in New York, Collins signed with Washington where he played the last three seasons. He has had some struggles over the last couple of years and his play has declined from the elite safety that he once was. That led to Washington releasing Collins this offseason.

Since being released, Collins is yet to sign with another team. At just 28 years old, he’s capable of playing many more years in the NFL. Even if he’s not the caliber of safety he once was, Collins can still be productive, especially as a depth piece.

If he’s looking to join a quality team where he can contribute in a rotation, the Colts make a lot of sense for Collins. He’ll have to understand that he isn’t being signed as a starter but that he can still carve out a role for himself.

With the passing habits of the league, a team can never have enough defensive backs and they’ll surely rotate them to keep guys fresh. Collins is a veteran that can join the room in Indy and help what could be a great defense.
