The Indianapolis Colts don’t have a solidified No. 2 receiver but Indy will need someone to establish themselves as a consistent threat this season.

As things currently stand, the Indianapolis Colts will enter next season with an intriguing wide receiver room. Leading the room is Michael Pittman Jr. who is fresh off a breakout season and is set up to continue ascending. However, things get shaky for Indianapolis after him.

The next two likely starting receivers are Alec Pierce, Indy’s first-overall pick in the 2022 Draft, and Parris Campbell, the frequently injured veteran that is entering a make-or-break fourth season. Both players are talented but they also both have obvious concerns.

The concern for Pierce is that he’s a rookie. Despite his talent and athleticism, it may take him some time to adjust to the NFL. That would mean the Colts can’t immediately put too much on his plate.

As far as Campbell, the concern is obviously staying on the field. In the first three seasons of his career, Parris Campbell has only played 15 total games. His injuries are out of his control but they are a factor in how much Indy can count on him.

With those factors at play, who’s more likely to emerge as Indy’s No. 2 receiver behind Michael Pittman Jr? Will it be Pierce, Campbell, or one of the other unproven receivers on the roster?

Will Parris Campbell or Alec Pierce have a bigger year for Colts?

It will benefit Indianapolis if Campbell is able to stay healthy and Pierce can quickly adjust to the NFL. That will give the Colts a deeper and more productive wide receiver unit.

However, Parris Campbell is the current prediction for the player to have the bigger year of the two. It may seem like the same offseason cycle as the last couple of years, but Campbell is due for a breakout season.

Both he and Pierce were impressive throughout Indy’s offseason program, and as long as Campbell’s body is on board, he should continue into the fall.

With his speed and intermediate work across the middle, he should be able to build a rapport with Matt Ryan so that he can provide a secondary threat for the Colts in the passing game.
