Bob Sanders was another great player for Indianapolis whose legacy was impacted by the limited amount of games that he played in Indy.
When available, Bob Sanders was one of the best defenders in the league and played with great instincts as a defensive back. Availability was his only challenge.
Sanders was selected by Indy in the second round of the 2004 Draft. He only played in six games as a rookie as he dealt with multiple lower-body injuries.
In his second season, Sanders played in 14 games and showed the football world what he’s capable of. He had one interception, one forced fumble, and 92 tackles.
He was voted to the Pro Bowl that season and was First-Team All-Pro.
In 2006, Sanders missed 12 games with a knee injury but he was able to make it back and contribute his play-making ability as the Colts went on to win the Super Bowl.
The season following the Super Bowl win was Sanders’ best year as a professional. He played in 15 games, had two interceptions and 97 tackles, and was named Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to making the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team.
In total, he played 48 games with the Colts over the span of seven seasons. He was able to win a Defensive Player of the Year award and a Super Bowl ring. His career was limited by injury but he made his presence felt whenever he was available.
