3 prospects Colts should hope are available after the first round
Colts should hope Christian Watson is available after the first round
Many people expect Indianapolis to select a wide receiver with its first pick but which receiver is the question. Not only is the wide receiver class deep, but a lot of them could go in the first round.
One receiver that is considered a fringe first-rounder is Christian Watson from North Dakota State University. Earlier in the draft process, it looked like Watson would comfortably make it into the second round.
However, he has since dominated a week at the Senior Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine. Watson is 6-foot-4, 208 pounds, and ran a 4.36 40-yard dash.
This athleticism is a plus to the 43 passes he caught for 800 yards and seven touchdowns in his senior season. He also ran the ball 15 times for 114 yards and another touchdown.
Watson has been impressive for the entirety of the evaluation process and that’s why he could be off the board late in the first round.
Even if he does make it to day two, the Colts will have to hope that he gets past a team like the Chicago Bears at No. 39.
If he’s on the board at No. 42, he would be a great selection for Indianapolis. The Colts need a consistent No. 2 receiver and Watson could be that with his explosiveness.
