The Indianapolis Colts may be signing another one of Gus Bradley’s former players after hosting Darius Philon for a free agency visit.

Soon, the NFL world will turn its focus to the new players that will be joining the league through the NFL Draft. However, the Indianapolis Colts are multitasking as they are still hosting veteran free agents for visits.

First, Indy hosted offensive lineman Dennis Kelly. Most recently, the Colts hosted veteran interior defensive lineman Darius Philon for a visit on Wednesday.

Philon has played five seasons in the NFL and in three of those seasons, Gus Bradley has been his defensive coordinator. Bradley is now with the Colts so it’s a natural connection.

Philon started his career in 2015 when he was drafted in the sixth round by the Chargers. That’s where he played his first four seasons and where Philon first linked with Bradley.

Bradley joined the Chargers in 2017 and Philon immediately had his best season in Bradley’s system. He had a career-high 4.5 sacks, seven tackles for a loss, and nine quarterback hits.

In 2018, Philon nearly had an identical performance recording four sacks, seven tackles for a loss, and nine quarterback hits.

Philon signed a two-year deal to play with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 but was released after he was charged with disorderly conduct with a weapon.

The charges were eventually dismissed but Philon did miss the 2019 and 2020 NFL seasons. He returned to the league in 2021 when he joined Gus Bradley with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Philon played in 11 games last season and had two sacks, five tackles for a loss, and two quarterback hits.

If he rejoins Bradley again with the Colts he will be used as a depth piece to help contribute to an improving pass rush. Indianapolis is committed to consistently getting after the quarterback and the team knows that is done by having talent and depth.

Philon may be signed on after the Draft to provide Indy with that depth.
