Colts draft safety Leon O’Neal Jr. in the sixth round

The Indianapolis Colts for the most part addressed the concerns in the secondary this offseason. Indy recently picked up Stephon Gilmore as well as safety Rodney McLeod. These additions helped to fix any issues the Colts might have had in the secondary.

However, Indy could look to add some depth to this spot. Leon O’Neal Jr. played a good bit in deep coverage at Texas A&M. He’s a guy that could do well as the third safety on the roster or as a special teams player.

Leon was a three-year starter at Texas A&M. With the recent injury history of Julian Blackmon, it wouldn’t hurt for Indianapolis to add a seasoned veteran as a backup.

Colts select cornerback Shaun Jolly with their last pick in the Draft

With the 239th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft Indianapolis will once again look to add some depth. Indy made a plethora of improvements to an already stout defense in the offseason.

However, due to the number of offensive players Indianapolis will select in the first five rounds, I couldn’t imagine them not picking a couple of defensive players.

Shaun Jolly grades out well compared to most defensive players this late in the draft. He has a good twitch and gets out of his breaks quickly. However, at only 5-foot-9, his size tends to cause some limitations.

Overall, I think Shaun Jolly would be a practice squad or bottom of the roster type of guy. The Colts have had some major hits in the last round and the undrafted marked in the past couple of years. With Jolly’s potential, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him make some sort of impact for Indy.

Jolly is considered to be one of the better tackling corners in this draft class. The Colts have had success using smaller corners in the past. For evidence, just look at Kenny Moore II.

With this pick and the other six picks in the draft, I believe Indy will have added the necessary weapons to elevate the team next season.
