Colts draft WR Christian Watson in the second round with pick No. 42

With Indy’s first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Indianapolis picks up wide receiver Christian Watson from NDSU.

Colts fans should not be surprised at all with this pick. Right now, Indy’s biggest need is at the wide receiver position. The most likely scenario for Indianapolis would be picking a wide receiver in this spot.

Some fans may want Jahan Dotson out of Penn State, but in this mock draft, he was taken off the board three picks earlier by the Chicago Bears.

Indianapolis fans should be happy with Christian Watson in this spot. In his senior season, Watson raked in 43 passes for 800 yards and seven touchdowns. His usage rate was lower than some of the top receivers in this class, but he excelled when given the ball.

Christian Watson also gives the Colts opportunities in the run game. In just 49 rushing attempts in college, Watson tallied 392 yards and two touchdowns. Watson was a big-play creator in college, averaging 18.6 yards per reception in his senior season.

Indy has huge holes to fill out at the wide receiver position. Christian Watson comes in at 6-foot-five and runs a sub 4.4 40. Watson should be an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses in the NFL. He could provide Indy with a much better option at WR2.
