The Indianapolis Colts may soon be able to acquire receiver DK Metcalf if the Seattle Seahawks decide to trade him.

A big struggle for the Indianapolis Colts is their lack of receivers. After Michael Pittman Jr., Indy’s receiving room consists of a bunch of unproven guys.

One of the reasons why is because of the Colts’ struggles to draft the right receivers. The perfect example of that is what occurred in the 2019 Draft.

Indianapolis had three second-round picks and used them for a corner, an edge rusher, and wide receiver, Parris Campbell. Five spots after Campbell, the Seattle Seahawks drafted DK Metcalf.

To date, Metcalf has had a better career than all three of Indy’s picks and that often leaves people wondering, what if the Colts ended up with Metcalf?

They didn’t initially, but there’s a chance that Indy still can end up with Metcalf. During an offseason that has seen Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner leave the Seahawks, many think Metcalf could be next.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports names Metcalf as one of the notable names that could be a part of the next blockbuster move this offseason.

Colts should be interested in a DK Metcalf trade

Metcalf burst onto the scene during his rookie season, catching 58 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns. He improved on that by catching 83 passes for 1,303 yards, 10 touchdowns, and making his first Pro Bowl in 2020.

Even in a frustrating year three, Metcalf still caught 75 passes for 967 yards and 12 touchdowns. Also, he has only missed one game in his entire three-year career.

It makes sense that he could be a trade candidate for two reasons. The first reason is the Seahawks are seemingly heading towards a rebuild and Metcalf can return a nice package of picks.

The other reason is that Metcalf is entering the final year of his rookie contract. If Seattle is not willing to sign him to an extension reflective of the rising receiver market, Metcalf may want to move on.

That is when teams like the Colts can enter the picture. It’s obvious that Indianapolis could use Metcalf to improve its passing game, but the question becomes at what cost.

A Metcalf trade will probably be worth early-round picks and his contract will surely be upwards of $20 million annually. Are the Colts willing to offer up that much to secure one of the league’s talented young receivers?
