Jelani Woods is taking the football world by storm as the draft gets closer and he may be a target for the Indianapolis Colts.

If the Indianapolis Colts are looking for their Jack Doyle replacement, they can end their search and put “All Chips In” on University of Virginia’s tight end Jelani Woods.

In his 2021 season at UVA, Woods hauled in 44 passes for 598 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.

An already impressive 2022 NFL Draft prospect, Jelani Woods shot up draft boards with his collegiate Pro Day on-field performance this week. Just weeks after dominating a tight end class at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Woods stole the show at George Welsh Indoor Practice facility, the University of Virginia’s location of choice for their Pro Day.

The impeccable Woods measured up at 6-foot-7, 259 pounds, a hand size of 9 and 1/4 inches and an arm length of 34 and 1/8 inches. He also led all tight ends with 24 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press at the scouting combine and ran an official 4.61 40-yard dash which was good for second-fastest.

Jelani Woods continued to show out at his Pro Day

Because Woods did not participate in any other drills at the Combine, his Pro Day was filled with explosive workouts that would also top other tight end’s numbers in this class.

In the vertical jump among tight ends, the highest from the Combine was 36 inches. Woods beat that by an inch and a half at 37.5. The list continues. Broad Jump? The longest jump at the combine was 10 feet and five inches. Woods leaped 10 feet and nine inches.

His time of 4.20 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle was faster than the 4.25 second leader from the Combine. His 3-Cone drill time? 6.78 seconds. If you think he didn’t crush that too I don’t know what to tell you, because he was faster than the dismal leading seven-second time recorded at the combine.

Ultimately, Jelani Woods was graded as the most-athletic tight end prospect in the history of tight end prospects.

Jelani Woods’ athleticism would be perfect for Colts

With connections to the coaching staff in Marcus Brady during the East-West Shrine Game where Jelani Woods recorded 3 catches for 30 yards and a touchdown, Chris Ballard and his scout team have insider knowledge of the kind of ability Woods can bring to the offense to give new QB Matt Ryan a much needed offensive weapon from this draft class.

One of the Colts’ most notable moves this off-season was re-signing TE Mo Allie-Cox. Pairing the two together would wreak absolute havoc for NFL defenses and allow coach Frank Reich to open up to the 12 personnel offense of two tight ends.
