Colts need to add corners

Indianapolis’ defense is shaping up to be an impressive unit. Indy is returning its main stars in Darius Leonard, DeForest Buckner, and Kenny Moore while also bringing back emerging players like Bobby Okereke, Kwity Paye, and Julian Blackmon.

To add to that core, the Colts went out and traded for Yannick Ngakoue. Edge-rushing is something Indy has struggled with the last couple of seasons so it acquired one of the best edge-rushers of the last few years.

While the addition of Ngakoue was great, it did cost Indianapolis Rock Ya-Sin. Ya-Sin had grown into a trustworthy corner and was going to be an important piece for Indy’s defense moving forward.

Now, with him gone, the cornerback spot is a weakness for the Colts. Both of the starting corners from last season are no longer on the roster with Xavier Rhodes now a free agent.

That means Isaiah Rodgers and recent signee, Brandon Facyson, must step up. Indy must also continue adding more depth and potential starters.

This is a position that can be addressed in the draft and free agency. There are currently still a number of available veteran cornerbacks.

Guys like Stephon Gilmore, Joe Haden, Kyle Fuller, and many more are all still out there. They may not be in their prime anymore but they still have a skillset that Indy can add for depth.

With such a strong front, the Colts must round out the defensive backfield so that this unit can be even more dominant than they have been in the past.
