Any of the young tight ends would’ve been a perfect fit for Colts
Not to be dramatic, but there were several young and talented tight ends on the market that Indy could’ve used. Instead, they all went to other teams and Indy’s tight end room is currently worse than last year.
Earlier in the offseason, two-time Pro Bowler, Jack Doyle, retired after spending nine seasons with Indianapolis. Then, the Colts’ first move in free agency was to re-sign Mo Alie-Cox to a three-year deal.
Alie-Cox has continued to improve but he hasn’t established himself as a leading tight end. Despite that, as things currently stand, Alie-Cox will be Indy’s top tight end next season, with Kylen Granson returning for year two.
Indy missed out on guys like CJ Uzomah and Tyler Conklin, who both signed three-year deals with the New York Jets. Gerald Everett also would’ve been a good addition for Indianapolis but he went to the Chargers on a two-year deal.
There were also the athletic tight ends like Evan Engram, OJ Howard, and Robert Tonyan, all signing one-year contracts with the Jaguars, Bills, and Packers, respectively.
The Colts can still draft a tight end or sign one of the older veterans on the market but Indy missed out on the chance to add a tight end that is either in or entering his prime years.
