Derek Carr is officially off the table for Colts
Following the Davante Adams trade, the Indianapolis Colts can give up any hope of trading for Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
Entering the offseason, there was a small possibility that the Las Vegas Raiders would move on from quarterback Derek Carr. The 30-year-old QB is entering the final year of his contract and it was unclear if he would get an extension.
Quarterback-needy teams like the Indianapolis Colts held on to this small possibility in hopes that it would come to reality so they could trade for Carr.
After the Raiders got a new head coach and general manager, it became more of a possibility that Carr would be traded. Additionally, the three other teams in the AFC West were making moves that could’ve left Las Vegas behind.
However, on Thursday, the Raiders made the ultimate commitment move to Derek Carr. They traded for his college teammate and close friend Davante Adams.
Adams would only come to Vegas if he knew he’d be playing with Carr and that’s exactly what’s happening. The Raiders have already worked on a new contract for Adams and now will turn their attention to extending Carr.
Derek Carr is no longer an option for Colts
Vegas has decided that Carr is their long-term quarterback answer, now, Indianapolis has to find that answer somewhere else.
It will be a tougher process for Indy than it was for the Raiders. The Colts traded away their most recent starter and the QB market is shrinking by the day.
Additionally, the Raiders are an example of how much easier it is to secure talent when you have a quarterback that elite players want to play with.
Indy is in the market for offensive playmakers but it doesn’t even have a quarterback, so the team is at a recruiting disadvantage.
Maybe things will change soon with all the quarterback movement in the NFL and the Colts will have their QB1 for next season. That quarterback will not be Derek Carr though.
