Baker Mayfield is an option for the Colts

Baker Mayfield being an option for Indianapolis will definitely cause a lot of polarized reactions, but, probably every available quarterback would.

Either way, Mayfield is officially in play for Indy. That became clear on Tuesday when the Cleveland Browns took a meeting with Deshaun Watson and Mayfield released a statement on everything that was going on.

Baker didn’t say that his time in Cleveland was over but he did say all the typical things in his statement that one says when leaving a franchise. He did admit that he doesn’t know what’s next.

Next could be the Colts. If the Browns acquire Watson, they will have to move Mayfield. Even if Cleveland doesn’t land Watson, things with Mayfield seem to have reached a point where a split is inevitable.

The quarterback is entering the final year of his rookie deal and the team hasn’t decided to offer an extension. Also, by pursuing Watson, Cleveland is admitting they don’t feel that Mayfield is the franchise quarterback of the future.

Indianapolis could trade for Mayfield and hope to see what the fifth-year quarterback can do with his newfound health. After an injury-filled 2021, Mayfield may be able to bounce back with Indy’s roster and help the team reach the postseason.
