Cam Newton is an option for Colts

The last two seasons have not been favorable for Cam Newton. He spent time with the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers, and both teams struggled while he was with them.

However, the problems were much bigger than Newton at both stops. While he may be past his prime and won’t be the quarterback of the future for any team, Newton can still be a productive option for Indianapolis.

Through the last two seasons, Cam has shown flashes of the ability that made him an MVP in this league. He still has been especially productive with his legs.

In just 23 games over the last two seasons, Newton has rushed for 822 yards and 17 touchdowns. That is the ninth-most rushing touchdowns in the league over that span.

Newton has also had some impressive passing games in the last two seasons. Newton still being a dual-threat makes him an interesting option for the Colts to explore.

There isn’t much else out there on the market and adding Newton to a backfield with Jonathan Taylor can complicate things for opposing defenses in the box.

That could give Indy an even more dangerous running game and the Colts could be aggressive to build up their weapons in the draft and free agency.

Indianapolis could get Newton on a cheap one-year deal and see what else the former MVP has to offer.
