Colts could move on from Grover Stewart

Big Grove is a key piece in the Colts defense, but he is overshadowed by DeForest Buckner next to him. With a new defensive scheme, Grover Stewart could be an odd-man-out on the defensive line.

There is no doubt that Stewart is a run stopper on the defense. He is a literal big body in the trenches that you must have to compete in the run game. Especially when you have someone by the name of Derrick Henry in your division.

Trading away Grover this offseason doesn’t do too much in terms of cap space. The Colts would only pay our $2.5 million if he was traded before June 1st. They would split that $2.5 million over two years if traded after.

Stewart could bring a lot of talent to defenses around the league and could get the Colts another second-round pick in return. I’d expect Stewart to not only get a second round, but a later round pick as well.

This is not going to be a wildly popular decision in Colts’ circles, but it could be a necessary move Indy should consider.

After watching the defensive line players workout in the combine, the draft is going to be filled with replacements. Why not move Grover and get some additional draft capital to get even younger and faster.
