With NFL free agency approaching, the Indianapolis Colts have been linked to Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Uchenna Nwosu.

The scouting combine is over now the NFL world will turn its attention to the coming free agency period that’s scheduled to begin March 16, with the new league year.

For the Indianapolis Colts, they will need a strong free agency period to fill the few holes on Indy’s strong roster. Most of the focus may come on the offensive side of the ball with needs at left tackle and receiver, but Indy should be in the running for some defensive signings as well.

The Colts are likely to pursue defensive linemen and edge rushers to improve pass rushing. Aaron Wilson, of Pro Football Network, reported that Indianapolis will be in the market for free-agent linebacker, Uchenna Nwosu.

Colts have interest in linebacker Uchenna Nwosu

Nwosu was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018 and has played all four seasons of his career there. He is now set to enter free agency and is expected to have a strong market.

Nwosu was a rotating defender in his first three seasons and made good contributions but he became a full-time starter last year and had the best season of his career as a result.

In 17 games with Los Angeles in the 2021 season, Nwosu had 40 tackles, eight for loss, five sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and one interception. In his four-year career, he has 15 total sacks.

As Wilson reported, Nwosu is a Southern California native that played college football at USC and would love to stay home re-signing with the Chargers. However, whether that happens or not will be a matter of finances.

The report says that Nwosu is looking for a contract in the $10-13 million range. With Los Angeles, Green Bay, Buffalo, the Jets, and Indianapolis all interested, Nwosu should be able to receive offers that meet his demands.

Something the Colts have that the other teams don’t is Gus Bradley, who served as the defensive coordinator for Nwosu from 2018 to 2020. A familiarity with Bradley and his system could give the Colts an edge in landing Nwosu.
