Darius Leonard should be untouchable for Colts

Darius Leonard is one of the best linebackers in football, arguably the the top inside linebacker in the NFL. He is undoubtedly the leader of the Colts.

Leonard leads Indianapolis vocally, emotionally, and with his play. The entire defense carries his swagger and follows his play-making lead.

What makes Indy’s defense so special is its ability to take the football away from opposing offenses. In the 2021 season, the Colts had the second-most takeaways in the league with 33— 19 interceptions and 14 fumble recoveries.

Of those 33 takeaways, Leonard personally recorded four interceptions, eight forced fumbles, and recovered three fumbles. Simply put, this is a completely different defense without Darius Leonard.

In addition to what Leonard offers physically, he is equally as important as a leader. Watching any Colts game and it’s obvious the energy that Leonard brings every day is contagious.

He also isn’t afraid to call out his teammates when they aren’t meeting the standard. That was evident during Indy’s time on Hard Knocks.

If Indianapolis trades away Leonard, it not only loses one of the best defenders in the league but Indy loses a tremendous leader. It’s hard to put a price on that caliber of player.
