The Indianapolis Colts will have a surprising starting quarterback next season according to an ESPN prediction.

The partnership between Carson Wentz and the Indianapolis Colts seems to be all but over. Frank Reich and Chris Ballard have been very open about the fact that Indy is exploring the possibility of moving on from Wentz.

Ideally, when a team decides to move on, they hope to get better at that position. That’s why fans and media have pushed for the Colts to pursue players like Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers.

However, they are both long shots, and Indy may end up with a quarterback that doesn’t make fans happy. That’s what ESPN’s Field Yates predicts in a recent article.

Predicting the 2022 starter for every team, Yates believes that Mitchell Trubisky will start for the Colts next season.

Mitchell Trubisky predicted to be Colts’ next quarterback

For some reason, Trubisky has been a hot name early in the offseason. He spent last season as the backup with the Buffalo Bills and only saw late action in six games.

All season he threw a total of eight passes, completing six for 75 yards and one interception. Coincidentally, the one interception was against the Colts.

However, after essentially a year of not playing, Trubisky’s stock is somehow on the rise. He’s a veteran quarterback that has been linked to several quarterback-needy teams.

There’s a belief that with a team with talent and a good system like Indianapolis, Washington, or Pittsburgh, Trubisky will be able to help win games.

It’s fair to say that Trubisky got a bad break with the Chicago Bears. Time has shown that the problems in Chicago extended well past Trubisky. However, if Indy ends up with Trubisky as starting quarterback next season that would be a terrible turn of events for the Colts.

Colts starting Mitch Trubisky would be a bad look

While Carson Wentz has his problems, moving on to Trubisky would be a downgrade. Trubisky hasn’t done anything to show he’s grown as a quarterback and can help Indy get to where it wants to go: a Super Bowl.

If the Colts settle for Trubisky that means that they whiffed on bigger name quarterbacks and damaged the relationship with Wentz beyond repair.

It also would mean that Indianapolis is going to have another unsuccessful year and will be looking for another quarterback next offseason.
