Xavier Rhodes doesn’t deserve another season with Colts

Indianapolis and Xavier Rhodes should think fondly of the two years they’ve shared together, but it should be coming to an end as Rhodes is set to enter free agency.

Rhodes had a quality season in 2020, his first year with Indy. He was able to play all 16 games and consistently give the Colts good cornerback play on one side of the field.

In 2021, however, things begin to go the other direction for Rhodes. He battled numerous lower body injuries throughout the season and his play declined as a result.

The calf injury sustained at the beginning of the season gave him a slow start but he was eventually able to get things figured out as he got healthy.

However, Rhodes sustained a hamstring injury towards the final weeks of the season and that likely ended any possibility that he would return for a third season with Indianapolis.

He will soon turn 32, and as a free agent, there isn’t any incentive for the Colts to re-sign him. Young corners Rock Ya-Sin and Isaiah Rodgers are developing nicely and Indy also is a favorite to land veteran Casey Hayward due to his connection to the new defensive coaching staff.
