The future is in the Ivy (League)
Imagine trading away Carson Wentz and then drafting EJ Perry from Brown University. That’s what the Colts are going to end up doing this offseason. With trade rumors lingering, it is likely the Colts don’t run with Wentz in 2022.
This leads to a major need at the quarterback position, especially if they don’t find a trade partner for a veteran. Is Sam Ehlinger the future? Probably not.
Perry was All-Ivy during his time at Brown. He transferred from Boston College and was actually a pretty decent quarterback. His name has been climbing in the rankings lately and he is getting the national spotlight.

Perry led the nation and broke the Ivy League record for total offense with 3678 yards to go along with 48 total touchdowns
Really good size and versatility as a player. Not to mention his accuracy while throwing on the runpic.twitter.com/ZBf7j76yqO
Perry is not going to be the future of Indianapolis. He’s not going to carry the team to the Super Bowl. But he could be a very serviceable backup quarterback and learn behind a veteran.
I anticipate the Colts trading for a veteran and then drafting another quarterback to really learn. This allows both Perry and Ehlinger to battle it out for the backup position. Ehlinger has already beaten out Eason. Will he beat out Perry, too?
The Colts have one of the best defensive players in the league with linebacker Darius Leonard. Next to him is Bobby Okereke. Who is the third? There isn’t a real answer here and that’s troubling.
Insert Iowa State product Mike Rose, who had the most interceptions by a linebacker this season with five. Could we see Rose and Leonard having a friendly competition with interceptions, soon?

Rose started his freshman season and has really led the Iowa State defense. He plays a clean brand of football and is smart on and off the field. He would really fit the Indianapolis mold and be a staple in the Colts defense for years.

This Colts-Kyler Murray trade could actually work
If Kyler Murray becomes available for trade, the Indianapolis Colts would have a path to acquire the talented quarterback.
