One of the latest mock drafts sees the Indianapolis Colts landing a talented receiver in the middle rounds.
The 2021 season is over and Super Bowl champions have been awarded. Now, the NFL shifts into the pre-draft process. That means pro days, combines, and mock drafts.
The Indianapolis Colts don’t have a first-round pick, so they aren’t included in a lot of the mock drafts that are only one round. However, the Colts are represented in multi-round drafts.
With Indy’s first selection at No. 47 overall, it’s interesting to see what talent would be available and what direction experts have Indianapolis going.
Chad Reuter, a draft analyst for the official NFL website, recently released a three-round mock draft. Reuter saw Indy going defense with their second-round pick, drafting cornerback, Kyler Gordon, from Washington.
In the third round, at No. 82 overall, Reuter had Indianapolis drafting Alabama receiver, John Metchie III.
Colts go defense then receiver in latest mock draft
Kyler Gordon is a six-foot defensive back and considered one of the top corners in this draft class. Gordon would be a good addition for Indy, but with young players like Rock Ya-Sin and Isaiah Rodgers, it would be surprising to see the Colts use their first pick on a corner.
Instead, many believe Indianapolis will target a receiver but Reuter has Indy addressing that need in the third round with John Metchie. Throughout his third and final season at Alabama, Metchie looked like a player that would be gone in the first two rounds.
After suffering an ACL tear in December, Metchie’s draft stock took a bit of a hit. If he slides to the third round, the Colts would be lucky to select him.
It’s evident Indy needs more talent at receiver after Michael Pittman Jr. was the only reliable target last season. Adding Metchie would give the offense another versatile receiver that can make catches all over the field, run after the catch, and block.
A lot of mock drafts are predicting that Metchie will be available in the third round and that’s just what the Colts need to start building a more potent offense.
