Colts could target Jack Coan

Anytime I hear about a Fighting Irish QB, I always feel the urge to introduce them as a professional boxer heading into a Saturday night fight, so bear with me here.

In this corner, standing 6-foot-3, with a weight of 220 pounds, the product of New York by way of the University of Notre Dame, Jack Coooooooooan!

Cue the John Cena intro music somebody.

Notre Dame initially recruited Jack Coan as a lacrosse attacker and midfielder out of high school. He decided football was his calling and ended up playing four seasons as a Wisconsin Badger. After falling down the depth chart he decided to grad transfer to the Fighting Irish quarterback room and what a ride it was.

In his Irish debut against Florida State in 2021, Coan threw four touchdown passes for 366 yards and completed 26-of-35 passes. Against Toledo, Coan threw a game-winning touchdown with a dislocated finger.

His success and game-breaking performance led Notre Dame to an 11-2 record in 2021, and an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma State. Coan threw for 509 yards and five touchdowns in a loss to the Cowboys.

While his primetime mindset is a huge bonus, his smart play and decision-making is the selling point. He thrives in quick read situations but doesn’t lose his progressions as the plays develop.

His accuracy is on point, although, he doesn’t really sit as a gunslinger. He’s not a statue in the pocket, his big frame allows him to extend plays, but don’t count on him to break out any triple-digit running games at the next level.

During the East-West Shrine game, Coan spent time with Marcus Brady, the Colts offensive coordinator who was named the head coach of the West team.

That connection could be a determining factor if Indy decides to take a shot late in the draft to add a great player, leader, and versatile player.
