Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Carson Wentz, will have the chance to face off against his former head coach Doug Pederson.

Doug Pederson was recently named the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. His arrival to the AFC South means a couple of things.

Most importantly, it means Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville have a Super Bowl-winning coach. But it also means that Pederson is now in a division with the Indianapolis Colts, a team that has a few pieces from the Pederson-coached Philadelphia Eagles.

The piece that has been driving the most interest is Colts quarterback Carson Wentz. When Pederson was named the Jaguars coach, the internet immediately begin discussing the twice-a-year matchups between Wentz and Pederson.

Carson Wentz and Doug Pederson brings intrigue to AFC South

Pederson and Wentz have a shared history after spending five seasons together in Philadelphia. Their relationship experienced highs and lows as Wentz led the Eagles to dominance and was eventually benched and traded away.

While the relationship started great, with Pederson being the biggest advocate to draft Wentz, it reportedly had an ugly ending, as it is believed the two weren’t even on talking terms in their final season together.

Now, Wentz and Pederson will be on opposite sidelines facing off against each other this coming season— maybe. It’s not even a guarantee that Wentz is the starting quarterback for the Colts next season.

If he is, Indianapolis will have enough motivation against Jacksonville before even considering this storyline. The Jaguars embarrassed the Colts in the final week of the season and blocked Indy from missing the playoffs.

The relationship of Wentz and Pederson will take a backseat to Indianapolis seeking revenge as well as the Colts’ QB needs. While there may be a storyline of a former coach-QB partnership between Wentz and Pederson, this isn’t a Brady-Belichick situation.

Adele won’t be called upon to preview the matchup and there’s a chance it doesn’t even come to fruition. So fans should lower expectations for these possible meetings.
