If the Cowboys cut Amari Cooper, the Colts should be all over him

Dallas Cowboys receiver, Amari Cooper, may soon be a free agent and if he is, the Indianapolis Colts have to pursue him.

The Dallas Cowboys had a pretty good season up until there were about 14 seconds left on the clock in their Wild Card game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Since Dak Prescott ran the QB draw that ended Dallas’ season, things have been slowly unraveling for the Cowboys franchise. Despite the loaded roster, there is a lot of uncertainty about the team’s future.

When a team has as many star players as the Cowboys do, some players don’t get to post their normal production, and eventually some are let go because of money.

In Dallas, it seems as if that player will be Amari Cooper. After an underwhelming year statistically, the Jones family has been talking about the size of his contract in comparison to his production.

Now, it is being reported that Cooper may be a cap casualty this offseason and could be cut from the Cowboys.

Amari Cooper and “Tank”, Demarcus Lawrence, are the players that may be released by Dallas to create cap space. Even if they are underperforming their contracts, these are still two top players in the NFL.

The Cowboys letting them walk away without getting anything in return would be bizarre, but there are a lot of teams hoping it happens. The Indianapolis Colts are one.

Colts would love for Amari Cooper to be released

Last season, Cooper caught 68 passes for 865 yards and eight touchdowns— that was a down year. In Cooper’s seven-year career, he has gone over 1,000 yards five times.

He’s been selected to four Pro Bowls and can join several teams and become their No. 1 receiver. If he becomes available, the Colts need to make that a reality.

Cooper will have a ton of suitors but Indy can offer him a large contract, make him the top receiver, and provide a place to compete for championships.

Competing for Super Bowls is exactly what will happen if Indianapolis lands Cooper. Indy is a few pieces away from being serious contenders and receiver is one of those pieces. Adding a player of Cooper’s caliber will allow the Colts to do way more things offensively.

Indianapolis fans should be hoping that the Cowboys make the foolish decision to release Amari Cooper. That may be the first step of the Colts’ offseason plans.
