Tom Brady officially announced his retirement and the Indianapolis Colts couldn’t be happier.
Tuesday morning, Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL and there was likely a roar heard around Indianapolis. The retirement brings an end to Brady’s sustained dominance over the Indianapolis Colts.
The majority of Brady’s 22-year career was spent with the New England Patriots, and they had an intense rivalry with the Indianapolis franchise.
Brady and Peyton Manning were the two best quarterbacks in the league and both teams often fought for AFC supremacy. Unfortunately for Indianapolis, Tom and the Patriots were often on the winning side.
Including playoffs, Brady has a 16-4 record against Indy. He even traveled to Indianapolis in his final year to pick up one last heartbreak win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Colts are happy to see Tom Brady retire
With the help of the great “SpongeBob SquarePants” series, the official Colts page accurately depicted how many of the franchise’s fans are feeling.
While many in the NFL world view this moment as an active legend walking away, for Indianapolis, this is a man that has provided a lot of heartbreak to a fan base, finally signing off.
In the early 2000s, Indianapolis’ talented roster couldn’t advance to a Super Bowl because they were eliminated by Brady’s Patriots in back-to-back seasons.
It wasn’t until the 2006 season that Indianapolis finally triumphed over Brady and New England, defeating them in the AFC Championship before going on to win the Super Bowl.
That was the Colts’ greatest moment in the relationship with Tom Brady and the announcement of retirement may be a close second because it means the end.
While Indy has its own problems that it will need to address, the city can sleep well tonight knowing that Brady will not be able to cause them any more pain.
