Colts 7-round 2022 NFL Mock Draft 1.0: Indy adds offensive weapons
Colts draft WR John Metchie III in the third round
Alabama wide receiver, John Metchie III, would have initially been a first or second round pick, but he tore his ACL on December 4, in the SEC Championship and now his draft stock is in question.
If Metchie is available in the third round for Indianapolis like he was in this mock draft, the Colts have to take him, even if they got a receiver like Dotson in the second round.
Simply put, this would be a steal. During his college career, Metchie demonstrated that he has the talent worthy of being selected in the top-two rounds.
In three seasons at Alabama, Metchie caught 155 passes for 2,081 yards and 14 touchdowns. Over the last two seasons, only two receivers have had more yards than Methcie, Dotson, and Jordan Addison from Pitt.
Metchie has proven to be a trustworthy possession receiver that can make tough catches on third down and in the red zone. That’s why the Colts should pursue him even if he is their second-straight receiver selection.
In 2022, ACL recovery is much more promising. Additionally, depth is the name of the game at the NFL level. Indianapolis could go from an underwhelming receiving unit to a promising one by adding Dotson and Metchie.
