Colts could sign CJ Uzomah

Did someone say tight end? This is a desperate need that likely won’t be addressed in the draft. After drafting Kyle Granson last year, the Colts aren’t going to use a pick this year to draft another. Getting an emerging talent at the tight end position is going to be a key piece to next year’s roster.

C.J. Uzomah is hitting the free-agent market this offseason and could be a prime addition to Indy’s roster. According to Spotrac, Uzomah is anticipated to make about $10.7 million on his next contract. Once again, the Colts have one of the largest salary caps and could easily afford to sign him.

Uzomah was a fantastic option in the Bengals offense in 2021. Paired with Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd, he was able to get open easily and really be a fallback for Joe Burrow. That could be a downfall on the Colts if they do not find more weapons.

C.J. had his most productive season in his seven-year career in 2021. With 49 receptions, 493 yards, and 5 touchdowns, he was the 4th most productive receiving option on the Bengals.

Uzomah would be a perfect addition to the Colts roster if he hits the open market. My expectation is for him to sign an extension with a rising Bengals team, but maybe Indianapolis offers him more money and he decides to live north of Cincinnati.
