Jack Doyle won’t return for Colts in 2022

Jack Doyle isn’t scheduled to be a free agent, but he is a veteran who may decide to hang up his cleats after this season.

Since coming into the league in 2013, Doyle has only played in Indianapolis. The tight end has been apart of every journey the franchise has experienced over the last decade, and he’s admitted that he may be ready to call it a career.

This season, Doyle played in all 17 games and caught 29 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns. That moved him to 295 receptions for 2,729 yards and 24 touchdowns in his Indianapolis career.

Doyle’s production this season was a part of a trio of tight ends that included veteran Mo Alie-Cox and rookie Kylen Granson. The emergence of Alie-Cox and Granson may make Doyle’s decision easier, knowing he’d be leaving the franchise in good hands at his position.

Doyle has committed so much to the franchise, so he should get to leave on his terms, and it seems as if he is reaching them. Once players begin publicly speaking about contemplating retirement, they are usually close to officially doing it.
