Xavier Rhodes won’t return for Colts in 2022
All signs have pointed to an exit for Xavier Rhodes since the beginning of this season. Just before the start of the regular season, Rhodes sustained a calf injury and that affected him as a starting cornerback.
Through the first half of the year, Rhodes consistently struggled in coverage and at that point, many assumed his one-year deal would be his last with Indianapolis.
Rhodes did get healthier as the year progressed and as a result, his play also improved. However, he didn’t make enough strides to guarantee that he’ll be back next year.

Additionally, Rhodes suffered a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the Colts’ season finale. Rhodes will be 32 this off-season and has battled numerous injuries over the past few seasons.
Considering the young defensive backs on Indy’s roster and others that will be available in free agency this year, it’s hard to imagine Indianapolis committing money to an aging cornerback who appears to be on the decline.
