The free agency plans of the Indianapolis Colts could change after a Week 15 injury to Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin.

For about the last year and a half, many projected that Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, Chris Godwin, would be a free agency target for the Indianapolis Colts. It seemed unlikely the Bucs would be able to offer him a No. 1 receiver contract and the Colts have a need and the necessary money, so the fit made sense.

When Godwin’s contract expired in 2021, Tampa Bay franchise tagged him, and he’s been playing under the tag this season and is set to enter the 2022 free agency. Unfortunately for Godwin, it was announced that he tore his ACL in the Buccaneers Week 15 game.

While Godwin will still enter free agency, this could drastically alter the process. Teams may now be hesitant to offer big multi-year contracts to Godwin and will have to change their plans.

One of those teams is the Colts. When the offseason arrives, Indianapolis will have a big need at wide receiver, but Godwin may no longer be at the top of the list of targets. This free agency class is loaded with receivers so Indy will have other options.

Here are three 2022 free agent wide receivers Indianapolis should target.

Colts should target Allen Robinson

Chicago Bears wide receiver, Allen Robinson, is another talented player playing on the franchise tag. Robinson, an eight-year veteran, has spent half his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and half with Chicago.

Despite plenty of instability at the quarterback position, Robinson was able to carve his way out as a top receiver in the NFL. He’s been selected to one Pro Bowl and has surpassed 1,100 receiving yards two of the last three seasons.

Robinson’s production has significantly decreased in 2021, but fans have learned to give grace to players playing in the dysfunction that is the Bears organization.

It’s fair to believe that Robinson still has a lot he can contribute and his dip in production this season may just make him even more affordable for Indianapolis.
